Cinéaltas Flag – Anti-Bullying Week
This week was anti-bullying week and we received a special Cinéaltas Flag in recognition of our efforts to promote kindness in school. Here you can see our 6th class pupils hoisting the flag at a special ceremony.
Cinéaltas is an Irish word which means kindness which is the basis of life in our school.
One of our anti-bullying strategies is our Friday board game groups. Pupils from 1st to 6th class form different groups each week and enjoy a range of board games. This helps pupils to have fun experiences with others from different classes promoting respect, equality and inclusion.
Science Week trip to Birr Castle Demesne
Today we celebrated Science Week with a trip to Birr Castle Demesne, home to what was once the largest telescope in the world.
We took the trip with the pupils of Boher N.S. Firstly, the older pupils did a solar trail which was based on the planets in the solar system. They read about each planet and recorded interesting facts on a worksheet. Meanwhile the younger pupils engaged in a pond dipping workshop with Catherine, a freshwater ecologist.
Next we swapped over and the older pupils had an opportunity to go pond dipping while the younger classes visited the science centre. We finished the day with a trip to the beautiful playground!
Happy Hallowe’en!
